CAROTID ARTERY DOPPLER

The main arteries supplying the blood to the brain are Carotid arteries and vertebral arteries. A carotid Artery Color Flow Doppler test is a vascular ultrasound performed to evaluate blood flow through the carotid arteries. The test is usually performed if a doctor suspects carotid artery blockage or narrowing.

The test is done as an outpatient test by a Cardiologist/Radiologits/.Ultrasonologist.

. During the test, the patient must lie on his back with his neck bent back slightly. A  gel is applied  to the skin, and a transducer is pressed on the  neck, and moves it around the area of the carotid artery.

Patients who have carotid artery blockage or narrowing sometimes experience symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, weakness in the limbs on either side or there is a suspicion of stroke. or headache that prompt a doctor to perform a carotid Doppler test. Other symptoms that may indicate problems with blood flow in the carotid arteries include momentary blindness in one eye or temporary problems speaking or moving. Carotid Doppler is sometimes performed as part of an evaluation prior to major cardiac surgery.

The test is performed by

Dr. Ashok Kapoor MD,DM at Getwell medical center Dubai.
